One of the many strengths of the residency program at Drexel is our didactic program, which is geared toward residents and ongoing learning with faculty. The department conducts a variety of didactic sessions to achieve the essential education upon which clinical experiences are built.
The academic calendar is divided into modules with specific subspecialty teaching. Lecture topics are designed to teach important information for the coinciding module. Further each week residents meet for keyword tutorials and board questions that are reflective of the current module. Residents meet quarterly with faculty mentor and review both in-service exams and the Anesthesia Knowledge Test for weakness and improvement. Throughout the year residents attend various lectures and workshops. First year residents are geared toward understanding the basics of physiology and pharmacology with integration in the practice of anesthesiology. Each year chief residents are involved in working with residents in improving the didactic program. Residents participate in simulation workshops that allow them to gain experience in critical situations and further to learn from their mistakes.
