  The Hedwig van Ameringen Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine® (ELAM®) program at Drexel University College of Medicine is pleased to announce the graduation of its 29th class. The graduating class included 95 ELAM fellows and 45 fellows from the Executive Leadership in Health Care (ELH) track, from a total of 92 institutions. They join a diverse alumnae community of more than 1,400 highly accomplished leaders that represent 300 medical, dental, public health and pharmacy schools from around the world.

  For more than 25 years, the Executive Leadership in Academic Medicine® (ELAM) program has been helping women develop the professional and personal skills to lead in academic medicine and health care. ELAM graduates, known as ELUMs, now number over 1,200. In 2021, a remarkable 11 of the program’s alumnae were appointed deans or interim deans of medical schools.   The Women in Medicine and Science Committee (WIMSC) was months away from holding its inaugural Women’s Leadership Summit, a discussion of gender equity in medicine and science, when restrictions took affect across the United States to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. By the time the first annual iteration of the event began on Friday, Dec. 11, the pandemic had impacted not only the timing and format of the conference, but also its focus – and organizers say that latter change was one for the better.

  The ABIM Foundation announces new education modules, developed by Drexel University College of Medicine and nine medical specialty societies, to help physicians engage their patients in conversations about tests and procedures to question. Research has found that patient-doctor communication is perhaps the most significant component of a patient's visit; yet many physicians receive limited training to develop these critical communication skills. To help address this gap, the ABIM Foundation funded Drexel to create a series of interactive instructional modules based on specialty society recommendations from the Choosing Wisely campaign.

It has been providing excellent medical care to adults living with HIV for 18 years.   A team of internal medicine residents from Drexel University College of Medicine has taken home the state title of "Medical Jeopardy" champions. The Drexel University College of Medicine team won the Pennsylvania title in a competition held last weekend at Hershey Medical Center. The team had advanced to the state round after winning the Southeastern Pennsylvania regional championship in October. At that time, Drexel University College of Medicine beat out seven other residency programs from the Philadelphia region, including last year's national champs Albert Einstein Medical Center.
