Background and Interests:

I grew up in Goa, India's smallest but picturesque state. Since my early years, much of my leisure time was spent reading books on subjects ranging from the sciences to history and from literature to world cultures. In fact, it was during this early inquisitive phase that I came across the biography of Louis Pasteur. His work on vaccination, which I believe marked the real beginnings of the discipline of immunology, impressed me greatly. It was at this point that I first developed an interest in the biological sciences. This led me to undertake undergraduate studies with a major in Zoology and later a Masters degree at Goa University. It was during this period that I developed an interest in molecular biology and immunology. Eventually, I shifted to the National Institute of Immunology (New Delhi, India), initially as a research intern and then as a research assistant, where I worked specifically on autoantibodies generated in systemic autoimmunity. My experience here has only confirmed my desire to pursue biomedical research as a career. I'm grateful to Drexel for giving me an opportunity to realize my dream of undertaking doctoral studies in my area of interest. In addition to this, my goals include doing post-doctoral research in an area of immunology related to my emerging interests, ultimately using the experience, knowledge and skills gained to venture out as an independent researcher.

In addition to academics, I also enjoy listening to music, reading, playing badminton and volleyball and making new friends.
